Asin’s Fate to be Decided Today

The Producers’ Council General Body meeting is scheduled to take place today. This is the first meeting after the elections that took place this year. This meeting is also very significant as the Council will decide on the course of action against Asin for visiting Sri Lanka for the Hindi film shooting Ready.
It has to be mentioned here that the Nadigar Sangam had earlier said that it would abide by any action proposed by the joint action committee in this regard.

Nayan Agrees To Vidya Balan's Reject

Nayanthara has agreed to star in the Malayalam film Madhilgalkappuram, which is the second part of Madhilgal, which was directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Madhilgalkappuram will be directed by debutant Prasad.
Sources close to the actress say that she agreed to star in this film as it is the potential award-winning role. Bollywood actress Vidya Balan was offered the role initially but she rejected it, sources report. Madhilgalkappuram, which has Mammootty playing the male lead, happens to be his home production.

Suriya's 'Rattha Charithram’ for Diwali???

Suriya’s ticket to Bollywood may have its reach few months later from the time it was expected. Ram Gopal Varma during his media interaction in Chennai assured that the film will hit screens along with ‘Raktha Charithra – 2’ (Hindi and Telugu) by August.
Unfortunately, the release date of ‘RC-1’ has been postponed to September 17. Just as the producers had planned to release the second part at least after 3-4 weeks of time, it may gradually delay the release of Tamil version, which has Suriya in lead role.
The reason why the makers wanted to avoid first part in Tamil was due to the star-casts so uncommon and unfamiliar to Tamil film buffs in Chennai.
Now, it’s slightly implying that the Tamil version’s release may extend up to last week of October or precisely for Diwali, which means November 5.
Anyways, there haven’t been official confirmations from any ends and keep logging to this column for more updates.

Anjali signs handful

Anjali who made a modest entry with the critically acclaimed film 'Kattrathu Thamizh' opposite Jeeva became a star after 'Angadi Theru'. But in the very beginning it was Mu. Kalanjiam who spotted Anjali even before ‘Kattrathu Thamizh’ and all set to launch the terrific actress with a film titled 'Sathamintri Muthamidu'. Kalanjiam had also given a new name Sundari.
But later ‘Sathamintri Muthamidu’ was shelved and with a new name Anjali moved on to do ‘Kattrathu Thamizh’ and the rest is history. But Kalanjiam had signed Anjali for four films before the turn of fortunes happened with ‘Angadi Theru’.
Now with Anjali’s star value on the rise, Mu. Kalanjiam has decided to revive his projects. At first he will launch ‘Karungali. In which he is also launching himself as the hero. Kalanjiam hopes the presence of Anjali will give his career also a boost to take up his other films.

Shyam becomes an action hero

Shyam has donned the role of a sensational police officer in the film Thillalangadi presented by Sun Pictures. Shyam has changed his chocolate image to action hero. While speaking to the media recently, he said,” From the films Lesa Lesa and 12B, all the roles which I did were soft. So I wanted to come out of this image.
Now Thillalangadi has changed this image. I have donned the role of a police officer. Normally all the heroes who have donned the role of a police officer have been received well by the audience. I was also received well. Though I have done the same role in the Telugu film Kick, the role I did in Tamil was something new to me. I have got the action hero image now.
I think this action stamp is required. Many have asked me about acting with another hero. Though Jayam Ravi is acting in this film, my role has significance. In Bollywood, all the films there will be two or three heroes. Even Sharukh Khan has acted with one or two heroes. Even in Tamil cinema this trend is catching up. This is a healthy trend. In Telugu after Kick I have become very popular.
Now I am acting in a film titled Hare Rama Hare Krishna which is being directed by Malli. I will also be acting in two more films. With regard to me becoming a producer, I have not become a full time producer. I am co-producing a film titled Agam Puram with Thirumalai. I am donning the role of an action hero. This film will give me another identity.
The songs have already become hits. This action film gives importance to sentiments. Meenakshi is pairing with me. Many are asking me that why I have not become a leading actor in spite of my talents. I don’t have background. If I had the background I would have produced many films and would have done the lead roles. I am little sad that I did not have the opportunity to do so.”

Jyothi Krishna says that acting and directing is like marrying two girls

A M Rathnam has produced hit films like Indian, Mudhalvan, Ghilli and Dhool. His elder son Jyothi Krishna debuted as a story writer for the film Natpukaga. After this he directed the film Ennaku 20 Unakku 18.
Now he has become the hero in the film Oo La La. He is also directing the film. T Kalaiselvan is producing the film. The audio CD was also released recently at Kamala Theatres in Chennai. Tamil Film Producers Council president Rama Narayanan released the audio CD.
Jyothi Krishna while speaking to the media said,” Oo La La is a wholesome romantic film. The story is centered on the hero and the heroines Oorvasi, Latha, Lalitha and Lavanya.
The hero faces love failure in the age of 5. The story is woven around his lover and him. Directing and acting is like marrying two girls. It is very difficult. So I have decided to do hero roles or otherwise I will direct a film which has another hero.’

Happy B’day Dhanush

A wonder in Kollywood – is this a right way to greet Dhanush? Of course, the young and aspiring actor has set a valuable inspiration for hundreds of wannabe actors, who have now accepted the fact – Nothing is Impossible.
Dhanush’s debut in films wasn’t preplanned and it happened at an overnight decision. Thanks to his brother Selvaraghavan for establishing him in three different dimensional attributes as an adolescent chap, a psychopath yearning for love and a deadly gangster. His ultra-contrastive delineation as a mass hero yielded him more fans and now he’s into the main league of young superstars.
Today Dhanush celebrates his birthday and it’s so cheerful to wish him for his earnest works of becoming a sweet kid of box office. The actor is filled more delightedness as he recently became the dad of a cute baby boy and has joined hands with his father and brother for a project.

4 Cheers For Bharath

Bharath afforded to make a great opening in Kollywood with director Shankar launching him in his own directorial followed by continuous projects produced by him (Kadhal and Veyil). Nonetheless, the actor stepped down from his epitome of success with some unapt scripts.
After his runaway success with ‘Kanden Kadhalai’, the actor had remained so careful over choosing the best scripts. Following a little gap on the course, Bharath is now building his way towards success, signing 4 different projects now.
It’s noteworthy that Bharath has almost completed shooting for Perarasu’s ‘Thiruthani’. Simultaneously, he will be filming Kumaravel’s ‘Yuvan Yuvathi’, Silambarasan starrer ‘Vaanam’ and an untitled project with Sasi.

Trisha crossing skies again

Acclaimed success of ‘Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya’ has encouraged Gowtham Menon to try his experiments in Bollywood now. It’s worth mentioning that the filmmaker’s previous journey to Bollywood with ‘Rehana Hai Tere Dil Mein’ wasn’t a runaway success. But this time, Gowtham Menon is sure as shooting stars with untitled remake of ‘VTV’ starring Pratik Babbar and Trisha in lead characters.
The film will be produced by the makers of original version in collaboration with Mumbai’s purple Arts.
A.R. Rahman will be scoring music with repetitions and Manoj Paramahamsa, the made who struck with magical colors will embellish the poignant drama again in Hindi as well.
The film’s shooting kick-started this morning in Chennai with portions pertaining to Trisha being shot here.

Big B’s congrats for Suriya

Much before Suriya’s ‘Raktha Charithra’ would hit screens, the actor has gained immense popularity amongst B-town celebrities. The hotties and hunks of Bollywood have already expressed their views that he has a great way ahead in Hindi Film Industry.
Recently, Bollywood’s superstar Amitabh Bachchan happened to watch some of the clippings from RGV’s ‘Raktha Charithra’. Soon after the screening, Big B uttered that Suriya could be the only actor, who is more apt for this role and has done a remarkable job. Instantaneously, Big B sent an SMS to Suriya about his spellbinding show.
Well for Suriya, it’s an additional support for his debut show, which is slated to hit screens in August.

Questions on Tamil 3 Idiots

Madhavan has officially declared what we have been saying for long. He has finally said he will not be doing 3 idiots in Tamil. He has tweeted “I am unfortunately UNABLE to do "3 Idiots" in Tamil and Telugu. Really sorry.”
So this raises more questions on the proposed casting. Though news were abuzz about Vijay, Madhavan and Simbu are going to be the 3 IDIOTS in Tamil online film enthusiast have been working out so many combinations that is very interesting. 3 Idiots in Hindi actually stood tall mainly on the riveting performances of the lead stars helped by a decent storyline. So in Tamil also it will be tough task to get the right cast.
Meanwhile Sathyaraj is said to have been onfirmed to do the immortal “Virus” professor played by Boman Irani. And for the only important female role played by Kareena Kapoor, sources say Shankar has Ileana in mind for both Tamil and Telugu versions. Some other sources say Trisha is also in the race.
As no official media announcement has come from either director Shankar or Gemini Films more and more probabilities are bound to fill the air.

Still no reprieve for Asin

Asin’s bold statements justifying her visit to war torn Tamil regions in Sri Lanka have not cut ice with pro Tamil groups in Tamil Nadu still.
In a recent meeting jointly held by 'Save Tamil Federation' and 'May 17 Movement', it was again restated that the protests against Asin must continue.
The two pro Tamil groups have issued pamphlets reasoning why Asin must be banned. In that they have accused Asin of becoming an ambassador of Sinhala government accused of genocide. It also blamed her creating a false picture of Sri Lanka is in peace by accompanying with the President's wife. The places she visited are banned for international media.
The activists also called for boycotting products which are endorsed by Asin in India.

Nayantara faints while shooting

Pretty heroine Nayantara apparently fainted on the sets yesterday while shooting for ‘Boss Engira Baskaran’ that has ‘Arya in the lead!
Sources say that Nayantara was empty stomach and didn’t have her food for the day, making her faint while the shooting was going on! The worried unit members rushed her to the hospital only to find out that she was weak. The doctors have advised her rest and regular food intakes.
The shooting was taking place in a leading studio in Chennai. IndiaGlitz hopes Nayantara comes back to work with the pink of health!

Anushka doesn’t care about being a sex-worker

Hottie Anushka didn’t have a better start in Kollywood as soon after the first film ‘Rendu’, she disappeared suddenly. Now the actress has made a stunning comeback in Tamil film industry with two consecutive hits – ‘Vettaikaran’ and Surya starrer ‘Singam’. Brimmed with the successful venture, the actress sets to perform a challenging role of a sex worker in Silambarasan’s upcoming film ‘Vaanam’.
Just as we have briefed enough about this film, it’s a remake of recent Telugu hit ‘Vedam’ that featured Allu Arjun along with Manoj Manchu and Anushka in lead roles. Since Manoj has been severely injured over his shoulders, Bharath will replace him and Anushka will repeat the same role.
Anushka was reported to be performing just an item number in this film, which is completely a rumor as she plays the female lead role and will appear all throughout the film.
‘Acting is all about doing your best and it doesn’t matter about the roles we take on’ says Anushka.

Malavika beats Ranjitha

Before few months, Sun TV had a great TRP of just airing the stunning film of Swami Nithyanandha. Wow! Even their preexisting television channels wouldn’t have made such great waves, but the clipping helped Sun Network to gain mass publicity and Rating as well.
There were even reviews published on this video clipping and now it’s time for Malavika to hit the headlines.
Sorry for the continuous sentence as she hasn’t done something remarkable as Ranjitha. It was about Malavika going crazy over attending the speech of Nithyanandha during his first preaching ceremony that was held recently.
The actress was present throughout the event and indeed smiled for the photograph session. It looks like, it’s the best way to hit sensation rather than trying something hard to prove their efficiencies over the screens.

THE STORY OF MANMADHAN AMBU IS OUT!

The story of Manmadhan Ambu is out! If sources are to be believed, the story goes on like this: Madhana Gopal (played by Madhavan) is deeply in love with actress Ambujam (Trisha). He wants to decipher if she is also truly and madly in love with him. In order to find this out, he engages a private detective, a role essayed by Kamal Haasan. Kamal follows Trisha who goes on a cruise for a film shooting. He has seven days at hand to complete his assignment.
Since he follows Trisha constantly and befriends her, Kamal’s partner Sangeetha suspects that he is two-timing her. Finally, Maddy chips to explain to Sangeetha about the purpose of Kamal following Trisha and all ends well. The name Manmadhan Ambu is derived from Manmadhan and Ambujam. It is said that Kamal’s character name could begin or end with “Man”. This mean Man stands for Kamal’s character name, Madhan for Madhavan and Ambu for Trisha.

Veppam Movie - Gautham Menon turns producer

Gautham Vasudev Menon, who so far produced some of his own directorial ventures on first copy basis, has turned a full fledged producer now. The film, directed by Anjana, has been titled ‘Veppam’.
Made under the banners of Photon Kathas Productions and RS Infotainment Pvt Ltd (one of the producers of Gautham’s last venture ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’), the movie marks the reentry of music composer Joshua Sridhar, who made waves with ‘Kadhal’.
Joining hands with Gautham as the producers of ‘Veppam’ are Madan Kumar, Jayaraman and Venkat. Executive producer is Ravi VI James. “Veppam is in its final stages of shoot. It comes with a different storyline and would be a unique film,” sources say.
Cinematography is by Om Prakash while lyrics are by Na Muthukumar. Editing will be taken care of by Anthony. Meanwhile, the advertisements of Gautham’s forthcoming directorial venture ‘Nadunisi Naaigal’ too appeared in today’s newspapers, claiming that the film is ‘based on a true story’.

Lakshmi Rai, extremely busy

With the signing up of the new movie 'Mangaatha' opposite Ajith, Lakshmi Rai has bagged another big role in her career. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, this 50th film from Ajith will also feature Nagarjuna in an important role.
Lakshmi is now extremely busy working simultaneously in meaty projects in Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil. She will have a Hindi release in coming days in 'Tere Bina Jiya Nahin Jaye'. Her immediate films in Malayalam includes the Mohanlal Starrer 'Christian Brothers', 'Casanova', ‘Yodha 2’ and Jayaram's ‘Makeup Man’.
Her new release in Tamil is 'Kanchana' which will get into theatres in a couple of months. Altogether, this seems to be the best of the days in the career of this glamour star, who has also become the most wanted ambassador in the Malayalam advertisement industry in a short time.

Simbu okays Sneha Ullal for ‘Vaanam’

Again on Silambarasan. Silambarasan film 'Vaanam' is making the news from the launch date. One of the news was that Anushka refused to do the film with Silambarasan but finally agreed to do an item number. Another was Lingusamy accusing Silambarasan for delaying his film because Silambarasan has started to shoot for ‘Vaanam’ ahead of his film. Another was the debate over if Anushka had refused who will be the heroine of ‘Vaanam’. ‘Vaanam’ is the Tamil remake of super hit Telugu film 'Vedam'
Silambarasan has got his heroine. He has chosen Sneha Ullal to be his heroine in ‘Vaanam’. Sneha Ullal was introduced by Salman Khan in Hindi after he broke up with Aishwarya Rai. The only reason Salman had to launch Sneha Ullal was that she looked like Aishwarya. But her career in Hindi was a flop and so like all drop outs she looked towards south. In Telugu she is doing fairly well. Sneha Ullal is one of the heroines of the recent Telugu box office hit 'Simha' starrig Balakrishna.
Now she is coming to Kollywood through Silambarasan. Sneha Ullal plays the sex worker role played by Anushka in the original. STR and Sneha Ullal will start shooting their portions from July 24 in Chennai.

Nayantara is Pregnant?

Actress Nayanathara, who was feeling dizzy, collapsed on the sets of her upcoming Tamil film ‘Boss Engira Baskaran’.The doctor who attended Nayanthara said the actress was very weak and had fainted as she didn’t eat since morning. Nayanthara was also advised to take rest for a couple of days and to eat properly on time.
The latest buzz is that Nayanatara is pregnant and that is the reason Nayanathara fainted in shooting. We heard the rumors earlier that Nayanathra felt in love with Prabhu Deva and got married to him secretly.
We have to wait for the truth behind her fainting incident

Velayudham Movie Preview

Remakes have always been safe bets for Vijay and director M Raja. With the former having a track record of films like ‘Kadhalukku Mariyadhai’, ‘Ninaithen Vandhai’, ‘Priyamanavale’ and ‘Pokkiri’, the latter has carved a niche for himself doing remakes from ‘Jayam’ to ‘Santosh Subramaniam’.
And now, both have come together for ‘Velayudham’, which too is said to be a remake of a Telugu hit, titled ‘Aazad’. Produced by Aascar V Ravichandran, the film that was launched amidst much fanfare has two heroines- Genelia and Hansika Motwani.
Says Raja, “This is my first film with a big actor like Vijay. He suits to the role well. The movie is about an ordinary youngster who transforms as a catalyst to reform the society. I am hopeful ‘Velayudham’ will work big time with the audience.”
“Vijay plays an enterprising youngster while Genelia is doing the role of a journalist,” the director says and adds: “Hansika Motwani and Saranya Mohan are also doing crucial characters. Comedy will be taken care of by Santhanam and Sathyan.”
The plot is interesting. Genelia reports that a superhero is saving the city and circumstances lead Vijay to accidentally save the city from the impostors, making him the accidental superhero!
Vijay’s costumes in the movie seem to be inspired from a popular game title. Though nothing is known how long he’d be wearing the costumes, the first look given by the makers suggest Vijay’s up to something big!
Saying Priyan’s cinematography will be a highlight and Vijay Antony has come out with catchy songs, Raja continues: “On the whole, ‘Velayudham’ will be a wholesome treat to not just Vijay fans, but for every movie-goer.”
On his part, Vijay says, “Working for a big banner like Aascar gives me immense proud. Raja is known for his knack to deliver blockbusters without a break. ‘Velayudham’ is a nice story. Hopefully our combination should rock.”

Simbu becomes STR

Post Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya’s phenomenal success, Silambarasan has become the blue-eyed boy of many, including some social welfare organisations.
The actor, of late, has been getting requests from such service institutions to back them in their good deeds. And Simbu too has decided to support their cause and he will soon make an official announcement in this regard.
Meanwhile, while applying for the UK visa for the shoot of his forthcoming film Vaanam, Simbu was asked to write his name by expanding initials.
When he did so, one of the officials (who knows Tamil well) saw the actor’s full name Silambarasan Thesingu Rajendran, and suggested him he could henceforth change his name as STR, since it sounds like MGR and NTR.
The actor, who is aware that his achievements are so small when compared to that of the two great legends, is however happy with the new name and wants his fans and peers to call him that way in future.

Prabhu Deva to direct Vishal

Vishal is hoping his film directed by Bala will take his career to the next level. He is said to be doing an author backed role in ‘Avan Ivan’ which will be appreciated by both connoisseurs and his fans. And that is a powerful performance oriented transgender role sources said. ‘Avan Ivan’ also has Arya and a recent buzz suggested that Arya and Vishal have tonsured their heads for the movie.
Meanwhile news from reliable sources say Prabhu Deva will direct Vishal in his next home production. The film is expected to be an action flick and Prabhu Deva has already got a name for slick action flicks with films like ‘Pokkiri’.
Vishal’s home production GK Films Corporation last produced ‘Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai’ starring Vishal and Neetu Chandra.

Nayantara in new Mammootty film

Nayantara who is not in the best of her times is cheering up with some worthy movies in Malayalam. She will gain hit the filmy headlines as her much expected film ‘Electra' is readying for release. Elektra deals with turbulent relationships within a family. Nayantara plays the daughter Elekra Alexander and Prakash Raj and Manisha Koirala are her parents. Directed by Shyamaprasad, Elektra will release during the festival of Onam.
Another important film to come her way is ‘Mathilukalkkappruam' which is a sequel to Adoor Gopalakrishnan's celebrated film 'Mathilukal'. It will be directed by debutante Prasad. Nayantara will be in the role of Narayani, the unseen woman prisoner on the other side of the prison wall in the original. Mammootty will once again come up as Basheer which got him a National Award for the Best Actor. The movie is expected to give some of the best moments of the lead actors in Malayalam cinema.
Earlier, Vidya Balan was said to be debuting in Malayalam with this film. Now it seems Nayantara has replaced her. Ravi K Chandran will be the cameraman and sound directions will be by Oscar winning Resul Pookutty. Mammootty’s production company Playhouse is producing this film.

THILLALANGADI MOVIE REVIEW

To start off with, it’s yet another remake from the duo Raja-Ravi as their previous films of the same kind proved to be black horses at box office. Obviously, their previous films’ original versions were top-class entertainers while ‘Kick’ was just a passable show and doubtlessly its replication reproduces the same results.
Let’s not get along with comparisons and hitting straight onto the point of verdict, ‘Thillalangadi’ is an average entertainer that is 170mins of show time. However, the narrative aspects with enjoyable and gripping moments make it worth watching.
Jeyam Ravi’s experimental role in ‘Peranmai’ won him incredible laurels and this imitation job does land him on appreciative grounds. Raja’s ethical traits continue in this film as every shot goes the same way on narration and technical aspects.
The film opens in Malaysia with Nisha (Thamannah) unwillingly accepts to meet Krishna Kumar (Shaam), whom their parents want to them married. What starts as a conversation turns into unexpected twist as they share a commonality with the same person. Uh! The story shifts to flashback as Nisha shares about acerbate past life with her ex-boyfriend Krishna (Ravi). His very nature of being rigidly unique of wanting ‘Kick’ and ‘Risk’ in very acts makes her annoyed. Krishna’s attribute of hop-skipping jobs very often splits them up. When it’s his turn to uncover about a person, who has been making him restless, Krishna Kumar reveals that his mission is about hunting down a vicious thief in Chennai, who has flown down to Malaysia now. For a greater surprise, the smartest thief is none other than the same Krishna.
Guess what’s gonna happen next? The second half is all about the hide-and-seek games laced with humor, romance and unconditional sentiments with reasons behind Krishna’s new avatar.
Ravi as a cool chap-later- a challenging man attempts to score bigger over screen space. Of course, at few parts, he entertains the audiences with his funny liners and mannerisms. But he has to change his dancing style. Thamannah looks cherubic at places, but her overactive mannerisms make it quite odder. The prototyped costumes turn comical after certain extent. Vadivelu with his comedy oriented parts keeps the first half going with right momentum while Santhanam has been wasted. Prabhu’s performance is at his best while Suhasini doesn’t appear for more than 3 scenes. She has to choose some good roles as she deserves yet more challenging roles. Mansoor Ali Khan as a risible cop often troubled by Vadivelu tickles funny bones. Shaam need special mention for his astounding performance and it’s really appreciable if he chooses for certain roles to get himself over the top.
The songs aren’t really convincing as Yuvan Shankar Raja loses his best standards. Even the background score doesn’t enhances the visual quality and raciness in screenplay. Thanks to Thaman’s original background score as it has been reestablished finely over here. Cinematography is average and so is editing.
If there could be few reasons to mention about Raja – it is his casting of actors and dialogues. Of course, the basic plot, screenplay has its credits for Surendar Reddy. If Raja had trimmed the duration in second half, the film would have been yet more entertaining.
What works: Shaam, last 30mins and climax, Vadivelu
What doesn’t work: Longer duration, Music, Camera, performances…
Verdict: Passable show
Banner: Sun Pictures, Jeyam Company
Production: Editor Mohan, Kalanidhi Maaran
Direction: Jeyam Raja
Star-casts: Jeyam Ravi, Thamannah, Shyam, Vadivelu, Santhanam, Mansoor Ali Khan, Prabhu, Livingstone, Thyagu, Sathyan, Mayilsamy, Deepu, Suhasini, Nalini, Lakshmi, Latha Rao, Chandra Lakshman, John Vijay, Balaji, Jayaprakash and Raja
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Lyrics: Vaali, Na.Muthukumar, Vivega
Cinematography: Rajashekar
Art: Milan
Action: Rocky Rajesh

Vijay Imitates Jai’S Headshake

Chief Minister kalaignar Karunanidhi and Ilayathalapathy Vijay released the audio of ‘Kanimozhi’ last evening at Anna Arivalayam. The event commenced with the screening of trailer in animation followed by three songs.
Prakash Raj, Nasser, Narain, Rama Narayanan, SPB Charan, AVM Saravanan, Parthiban, Na. Muthukumar, Shiva, Premji Amaran, Vaibhav, Aravind Akash and many others were present.
Nasser compeered for this special occasion and Parthiban came up with some hilarious speech in limited levels. Vijay, who on spoke on his turn said that he loves the way Jai, shakes his head in the song ‘Kangal Irandal’ (Saying this, he imitated Jai’s act).

Radha Mohan doesn’t care about ‘Kandahar’

Very often most of the filmmakers watch the same DVD and try remaking it with their own style. It has happened with the special incidents as well where our directors are inspired to adapt them on screens. Say for instance, the horrific incident of 9/11 has become the most common theme of Bollywood as most of the movies are centered on the same concept.
In all likelihood, here comes an inspiration from ‘Kandahar Flight Hijack’ for both directors – Radha Mohan and Major Ravi. Both of them have been avidly making their own films based on the same concept.
Major Ravi’s multilingual film ‘Kandahar’ features Mohanlal in lead role along with Ganesh Venkataram and Bollywood actor Neil Nithin Mukesh in lead role and Superstar Amitabh Bachchan plays an important role. On the pars, Radha Mohan’s ‘Payanam’ will be made in Telugu titled as ‘Gangam’ with Nagarjuna in lead role. The Tamil version is titled as ‘Payanam’ and even Prakash Raj takes on an important character.

Asin

Asin was born into a Catholic family in Kochi, Kerala. Her father, Joseph Thottumkal originally from Thodupuzha, managed several businesses and was considered a prominent entrepreneur before he stopped managing his businesses and decided to manage his daughter’s acting career instead. Furthermore Asin’s father accompanies her to all her foreign shoots.
Her mother, Seline Thottumkal, remains a surgeon despite moving settlements from Cochin to Chennai to Mumbai to live with her daughter. Asin has quoted that her name “means pure and without blemish”. She claims that “the ‘A’ in her name is from Sanskrit meaning “without”, and ‘Sin’ from English”.[2]
Early work, until 2004
Asin Thottumkal debuted in a supporting role in Sathyan Anthikkad’s Malayalam film Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka in 2001, at the age of 15. After taking a year out to pursue her education, Asin returned with her breakthrough film as an actress, Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi opposite Ravi Teja, portraying a Tamil girl in her first Telugu language film, which subsequently fetched her the Telugu Filmfare Award for Best Actress.[3] In the same year she won the Santosham Best Actress Award for her performance alongside Nagarjuna in her second Telugu film, Shivamani.[3] Her following two Telugu films, Lakshmi Narasimha and Gharshana, both portrayed Asin as the love interest for police officers, giving her two successful films, cementing her place as a leading actress in the Telugu film industry.
Asin’s first Tamil language film was M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi, in which she co-starred with Jayam Ravi. Asin reprised her role from her film Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi for the remake, which saw her portraying a Malayali girl instead of the Tamil girl in the original. The movie subsequently went on to become one of the biggest hits in Tamil cinema during 2004, introducing Asin to Tamil film industry.[4] After a brief return to Telugu films, to do Chakram, she appeared in Ullam Ketkumae.[5] The film, initially launched in 2002, was originally meant to be the launch for Asin as a lead actress, along with then-debutants Arya and Pooja Umashankar. The college love story, directed by Jeeva, was long-delayed but eventually became a successful venture at the box-office, creating wider opportunities for her and the rest of the lead cast.[6]
Breakthrough, 2005 – 2007
After the release of Ullam Ketkumae, Asin was cited as a leading heroine after signing films with prominent actors of the Tamil industry in Ghajini, Majaa, Sivakasi and Varalaru respectively.[7] The film which provided the breakthrough for Asin was Ghajini. The film, co-starring Surya and Nayantara and directed by A. R. Murugadoss, earned her the Tamil Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Her role was that of a vivacious young model named Kalpana. Sify.com praised her portrayal as “magical”, descriving her character as a “lovable chatterbox”, played with “sheer ability in the romantic interludes, the poignant and heartfelt scenes when she rescues minor girls from villains and her gory end are touching”.[8] The following Diwali in 2005, Asin had two releases, Sivakasi and Majaa. Despite the latter becoming an average grosser, the former went on to be a successful venture at the box office, despite Asin’s poorly etched out role.[9][10]
The following year, her long-delayed venture, Varalaru opposite Ajith Kumar, became the biggest blockbuster of 2006 in Tamil cinema. The film’s hero-centric plot retreated Asin to the sidelines, but her role was well acclaimed by critics.[11] Asin appeared in Pawan Kalyan’s Annavaram, another successful venture in which she had a poorly-etched out role.[12] In January 2007, Asin appeared opposite Ajith Kumar and Vijay in two different films, Aalwar and Pokkiri, with the latter becoming a success, whilst Aalwar became a failure. Whilst Asin’s role in Aalwar was criticized, her performance in Pokkiri was lauded by critics.[13][14] Her final project of the year was opposite in Hari’s Vel, which had a Diwali 2007 release, subsequently becoming her third successful film which released during the Diwali season in three years. Asin, who portrayed a TV anchor, was appreciated for her role in the film.[15]
Success, 2008 – present
Asin appeared in her first dual role in K. S. Ravikumar’s magnum opus Dasavathaaram opposite Kamal Haasan, who portrayed ten roles. The film, which was under production since September 2006, became Asin’s largest film till date. Despite being overshadowed by Haasan’s ten roles, Asin’s portrayal’s in the film were praised as her “best-to-date” with one of her roles being that of a Vaishnavite in the 12th century; whilst the other character was a Brahmin girl from Chidambaram.[16] Dasavathaaram subsequently went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters in South Indian film history.[17] Since establishing herself as the leading actress in South India, Asin opted to move into Bollywood, to get nationwide fame. Her first film, Ghajini opposite Aamir Khan was the remake of her breakthrough film of the same name. Upon release, the film garnered positive reactions from critics and masses alike, with Asin being singled out for her “fabulous” portray. Noted critic, Taran Adarsh describes her Hindi debut as “fabulous” and that “to share the screen space with an actor of the stature of Aamir Khan and yet remain in your memory even after the show has ended is no cakewalk. She looks fresh and photogenic and acts her part brilliantly”, giving Asin’s performance a positive outlook.[18] Asin is committed to Vipul Shah’s London Dreams alongside Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, in which she plays a member of a five-troupe band.[19][20]

Bhumika Chawla

Chawla was born in a Punjabi family in New Delhi, India and completed her schooling there. She moved to Mumbai in 1997 and started her career with ad films and Hindi music video albums. She also appeared in the Zee TV series Hip Hip Hurray.
Chawla started off her film career in the Telugu film industry, starring in the feature film Yuvakudu (2000) alongside actor Sumanth. Her second release, Kushi (2001), in which she starred opposite Pawan Kalyan was a box office success, following which she acted in several films in Telugu, including Okkadu (2003) opposite Mahesh Babu, which became one of the year’s highest grossers in Telugu.[2] Meanwhile, she made her debut in the Tamil film industry as well, starring in the film Badri (2001) opposite actor Vijay, which was followed by her second Tamil film Roja Kootam (2002).
After a number of critically and commercially successful films in the South, she starred in her first Bollywood film, Tere Naam (2003), alongside Salman Khan. The film was one of the year’s highest grossers. Apart from it, it was a critical success and her performance in the film won her many positive notices as well as several nominations for Best Debut at different award ceremonies. She was nominated for her first Filmfare Best Actress Award, and won the Best Debut trophy at the Zee Cine Awards ceremony.[3]
Subsequently, she got to star in a number of Hindi films as Run (2004), a remake of the same-named Tamil film, Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa (2004), again opposite Salman Khan, Silsilay (2005) and Dil Jo Bhi Kahey… (2005) alongside Amitabh Bachchan. She returned to Telugu, acting in the films Naa Autograph (2004), a remake of the Tamil film Autograph and Jai Chiranjeeva, alongside Chiranjeevi and Sameera Reddy. Whilst Chawla’s performance in the former won her accolades and the CineMAA Jury Award for Best Actress, the latter went to become a super hit film.
In 2006, she appeared in the Tamil film Jillendru Oru Kadhal, alongside real-life couple Surya and Jyothika, whilst playing a vital role in the Hindi film Family – Ties of Blood, in which she shared screen space with Amitabh Bachchan, once again, and Akshay Kumar, and starring in the Telugu fantasy film, Mayabazar. In 2008, she made her debut in the Punjabi film industry, starring in Yaariyan, opposite Gurdas Maan, following which she debuted in Malayalam as well, starring in Bhramaram alongside Mohanlal. Currently, she is working on half-a-dozen films in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, which include Thangar Bachan’s Kalavadiya Pozhudugal opposite Prabhu Deva in Tamil, Yagam alongside Navdeep and Sathyaraj in Telugu and Classmates, a remake of the same-named Malayalam film, in Hindi.

Madhavan is Manmadhan Trisha is Ambu

The team of ‘Manmadhan Ambu’ is back after their hectic European schedule. The schedule spawned hot news like Trisha went missing in the luxury cruise and Trisha's mother is doing a cameo at the behest of Kamal and so on. But what we have got now is the story line of ‘Manmadhan Ambu’.
‘Mamadhan Ambu’ is a great situational comedy much in line with some old Kamal classics like Michael Madhana Kamarajan, Panchathanthiram etc. In ‘Manmadhan Ambu’, Kamal Haasan plays a private detective hired by Madhavan. Madhavan is in love with Trisha and before marriage Madhavan suspects Trisha's sincerity and asks Kamal who runs a private detective agency to trail her and give him good news.
In this colourful comedy Madhavan's character is called Madhan and Trisha's character is called Ambujam. Hence the title ‘Manmadhan Ambu’. Got it?
Though Sangeetha plays Kamal's jodi in the film sources say there is song in the film pictures on Kamal and Trisha.

‘Ayan’ team with AGS Entertainment

Following the grand success of ‘Ayan’, filmmaker K.V. Anand and Suriya will coming together for a big-budgeted film produced by AGS Entertainment. What happened to be an unconfirmed buzz is finalized now as the official reports put an end to such calls on air. Yes, the most successful team of Kollywood will join hands again for a big ticket to be produced by Kalpathy Agoram of AGS Entertainment. AGS has already fetched the greatest honors of producing successful films including the recent release ‘Madharasapattinam’. With lots of biggies lined up consecutive releases including Bala’s ‘Avan Ivan’ and Mysskin’s ‘Yuddham Sei’, the producers have now signed K.V. Anand and Suriya for their next film, which will go on floors from February 2011. Rest of the crewmembers will be finalized shortly and it can assured that the duo is all set for a big bonanza in 2011.

Vijay, Simbhu and Maddy – 3 Idiots

Finally, we have the picture perfect team for Shankar’s remake of ‘3 Idiots’ with Vijay, Silambarasan and Madhavan playing lead roles.
It was unconfirmed buzz as the assumptions about star-casts remained so confidential and now we have some of the sources uncovering about the trio donning lead roles. The Telugu version will have Mahesh Babu along with Simbhu and Maddy taking on the respective roles. The professor role performed by Boman Hirani in Hindi version will go to none other than Sathyaraj.
But for a greater surprise, A.R. Rahman will not be working with Shankar as he is busy with other projects and international tour. Shankar’s second preference always goes to Harris Jayaraj as they worked together previously for ‘Anniyan’.
As of now Shankar is brimmed with his preparations for ‘Enthiran’ and the complete team will be announced soon after the release.

Kavya Madhavan files divorce

Months after she came back to India after parting ways with husband Nischal Chandran, a Kuwait-based banker, Kavya Madhavan has finally filed her divorce papers at the Ernakulam family court.
If sources are to be believed, the ‘En Mana Vaanil’ and ‘Saadhu Miranda’ actress expects that she would get the divorce soon, after which she is planning to concentrate more on what she knows the best, acting in films. “She has already started acting in movies,” sources say.
They add: “Her first film after she walked out the marriage is ‘Pappi Appacha’ with Dileep which has become a super hit. She is also there in ‘Christian Brothers’, which has Mohanlal, Sarath Kumar and Dileep.”
Kavya married Chandran in February 2009 at a grand wedding ceremony attended by who is who of Malayalam film industry. However, she had serious differences with her husband and his family members, following which she returned India.

More trouble for Asin

The Federation of Tamil Associations of North America (FeTNA), an umbrella body of more than 30 Tamil organisations across the United States, said on Monday that it would boycott films starring Asin because of her visit to Sri Lanka.
This decision comes a day after the South Indian Film Artistes Association (SIFAA) said on Sunday that a joint consultative committee would decide on the action to be taken against actors visiting Sri Lanka.
In a statement, FeTNA chief Palani Sundaram said, “The Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America will boycott films of Asin because of her visit to Sri Lanka despite a ban by the Tamil film industry.”
Meanwhile, the actress, who was in Mumbai on Monday, said she did not flout any diktat of the Nadigar Sangam as she stayed away from the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) award ceremony in the island nation.
“I spoke to SIFAA president Sarath Kumar and I am ready to abide by the joint committee’s direction,” she reportedly said. The committee comprises the Film Employees Federation of India, SIFAA, Tamil Film Producers Council, South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce and directors association among others.

Sangithas experience with Manmadhan Ambu unit

Life’s been hectic for actress Sangitha, who has been shooting with Kamal Haasan, Madhavan and Trisha for K S Ravikumar’s Manmadhan Ambu. But the actress is bubbling with enthusiasm when she talks about her experience of working with the team.
“We shot for almost a month for the first schedule. We were rushing around like mad people, rehearsing and shooting our scenes. Though we were all abroad and sailing around in a cruise ship, work was very taxing.
But I’m definitely not complaining. It was so nice to work with veterans like Kamal sir and K S Ravikumar sir. And getting back with Madhavan and Trash (Trisha) was fun. I thoroughly enjoyed it,” begins Sangitha.
Ask her about her role in the movie and she answers diplomatically, “I can’t reveal anything about my character or the film. But I can say that the audience will have an amazing time watching the film. It will be a visual treat.”
Sangitha says that the first schedule of Manmadhan Ambu was shot in several countries in Europe and each journey was an experience by itself. “Everyday, we would be in different countries, looking at different monuments that reflect their rich culture.
At the same time, we would be busy remembering our lines and thinking how to better our performances. Though Trash and I passed several malls and stores with exquisite collections, we had absolutely no time to shop!” she says.
So, how’s her equation with Trisha? “I’ve known Trash for long. The unit members would pull our legs. They would play tricks on us and try to get us to fight, but Trash and I would get together and retaliate.
There were no catfights. In fact, the two of us would help each other rememberdialogues and share tips on costume and make-up,” she reveals about their healthy relationship.
Sangitha is also excited about working with Madhavan again. “We first paired up for Evano Oruvan. Though the two of us would laugh a lot and crack jokes on the sets of Evano Oruvan, we would turn serious once we faced the camera. We didn’t even smile on screen. But this time, the two of us kept laughing and having fun. It was a riot,” she smiles.
On a serious note, she adds, “Maddy encourages and applauds his co-stars. He boosts their morale. And if working with Maddy’s a pleasure, then working with Kamal sir and Ravikumar sir is a dream. Despite being in the industry for a long time, they are so down to earth. I loved every moment of working with them.”
Giving us details on the next schedule of the film, she says, “The unit will decide the locations in another 20 days and we should be on board soon. We’ve shot almost 65 per cent of the film in the first schedule.
In fact, Kamal sir and I are almost done shooting for our parts. Only Trash and Maddy have to shoot for theirs now,” she signs off.

Magical Success of 'Puli' in Chennai
